Nonlinear optical beams carrying phase dislocations

چکیده
We describe different types of self-trapped optical beams carrying phase dislocations, including vortex solitons and ring-like soliton clusters. We demonstrate numerically how to create such nonlinear singular beams by the interaction of several fundamental optical solitons. Mutual trapping of several solitons can be regarded as a synthesis of ‘soliton molecules’, and it corresponds to a transfer of an initial orbital angular momentum of a system of solitons to a spin momentum of an optical vortex. Observation of optical azimuthons.
We observe experimentally optical azimuthons, a generic class of ring-shaped localised spiralling beams with azimuthal modulation, carrying phase dislocation in self-focusing nonlinear media. We observe three- and four-lobe azimuthons in 87Rb vapours and demonstrate their anomalous rotation controlled by the input phase distribution.

This paper presents arguments for the existence and dynamics of one-dimensional odd dark beams of finite length in bulk Kerr nonlinear media. Their characteristic mixed edge–screw phase dislocations force them to steer in space. The modulational stability of these dark beams and one possible interaction scheme are discussed. متن کاملOptical Vortices and Vortex Solitons
Optical vortices are phase singularities nested in electromagnetic waves that constitute a fascinating source of phenomena in the physics of light and display deep similarities to their close relatives, quantized vortices in superfluids and Bose-Einstein condensates. We present a brief overview of the major advances in the study of optical vortices in different types of nonlinear media, with em...
متن کاملPolarization patterns and vectorial defects in type-II optical parametric oscillators.
Previous studies of lasers and nonlinear resonators have revealed that the polarization degree of freedom allows for the formation of polarization patterns and novel localized structures, such as vectorial defects. Type- II optical parametric oscillators are characterized by the fact that the down-converted beams are emitted in orthogonal polarizations. In this paper we show the results of the ...
متن کاملSpatial optical solitons and soliton clusters carrying an angular momentum
We describe different types of ring-profile optical solitary wave and clusters of fundamental solitons propagating in isotropic nonlinear optical media. Such ringlike solitons carry a finite angular momentum and, depending on the value of the total momentum and structure, they either fragment quickly into several fundamental solitons that fly off the ring, or propagate stably for many diffracti...
